Milmer Martínez Vergara is an expert in agroecology and regenerative agriculture, with extensive experience in community-based environmental development. As the International Programs Vice President at Plant With Purpose, Milmer has led initiatives to transform rural livelihoods through sustainable agriculture, environmental restoration, and economic empowerment across multiple countries in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. With a passion for capacity building and a deep understanding of how ecological health impacts poverty alleviation, Milmer works closely with farmers and local partners to implement programs that foster long-term, holistic and sustainable development.
This presentation will explore how rural development work offers a transformative opportunity to restore natural habitats through integrated agroecological and human development interventions that address both poverty alleviation and long-term ecological sustainability. By fostering conditions that empower farmers as key agents of community organization and mobilization, we can promote sustainable land management practices that not only restore and protect local ecosystems but also ensure these ecosystems continue providing essential services critical to the resilience of rural livelihoods.
