Roy was born in Southern California and grew up camping and loving the outdoors especially in rustic areas leading to his interest in college in Biology. He and his wife (from high school days) got married after a year of college and were called to the mission field a few months later. She studied to be a nurse and Roy got his BS in tropical agronomy then two years later a Masters in the same, both at the University California at Davis (1980). They both joined the Evangelical Covenant Church and served 20 years in the DRC and 20 years in the Central African Republic/Cameroon where they worked along side farmers helping them with new species of beans, veggies, and fruits along with improved methods of farming. Paul Noren and Roy joined forces in 1980 and became a team for 40+ years and together have written 3 books, pertaining to Agroforestry in the hot humid tropics. Forty+ years of working together has generated many stories to tell and practical suggestions to pass on to the younger generations. Roy is retired now, but continues to advise several other ag projects mostly in Africa. Roy and Paul would be happy to connect with you between sessions!
